Asia-Minor Collection

The collection from Asia Minor includes items from Mesopotamia, Syria, and Eretz-Israel* and the collection dates mostly from ancient periods.  The items making up the collection feature small pottery and bronze figurines of animals, which apparently were used in ritual and burial ceremonies a common feature in other cultures.  Many cylinder seals and scarabs made from various stones are prominent among the exhibits.  On all of them we can see carved inscriptions, names, images of local deities and goddesses, images combined with animals, and it may be assumed that some of them describe images from the local myth.  Moreover, beautiful glassware, some with glass relief decorations in different colors are also exhibited.  The majority are dated to the 8th – 9th centuries C.E.
